Miriam has some quite distinguished ancestors. On her father’s side, their births were announced in the Times. Nazi persecution brought her mother to England and led to a story of heroism and links to the Kindertransport.
By contrast, many of Phil’s ancestors would not have been able to read the Times. There are still some dramatic stories hidden in the past, some too racy for publication even today.
